Bad News if you are in the Construction Business

The chart below depicts the anticipated change in jobs in the construction business projected for the year 2010. I used this chart because building may be on of the indicators that will show true recovery.  Click here to go to the web site for the full interactive chart.  You can select any sector or state.  I have bookmarked this for future reference, pretty neat setup.

This bubble was in the housing sector and there is and will remain plenty of inventory on the market for years to come in my opinion.  Foreclosures may slow but there are still many re-sets on variable rate notes upcoming.  In addition there is still noise in the commercial sector.

It is my opinion also that the key to our recovery can be found in household spending.  This whole cycle is like a cancer eating the economy from the inside now and government throwing money into these stimulus programs is far to little and simply a waste which will only prolong the situation and further burden future generations.

I notice as I go about daily life that places are thin in customers, but the 30 somethings are still going on as nothing has happened.  I have been making notes on places I go and conditions I see just for my own curiosity.  Places like the grocery, Home Depot and Walmart etc. The depth of unemployment and underemployment when considered together seems to me to be more severe than government numbers indicate.  At least here in Nevada the construction industry which once drove the economy is in a poor state.

The Strange Mystery of the gold at Victorio Peak

I have spoken of Yamashita’s gold before.  Here is another “Legend” concerning gold and mystery.  It is the gold stash supposed to have been found by “Doc” Noss and his wife Ova around 1937.  Rumor has it that Lyndon Johnson just may have acquired the Very old stash of Spanish gold.  Lots of gold stories out there

This really makes you wonder about just how much gold is out there that very few are aware of.  One man says he saw over 18,000 bars of gold inside the mountain.  That's a pile of gold.  Where did it go?

Teachers in trouble after honoring O.J. Simpson, Dennis Rodman and RuPaul for Black History Month

Teachers in trouble after honoring O.J. Simpson, Dennis Rodman and RuPaul for Black History Month: "LOS ANGELES - Three Los Angeles elementary school teachers accused of giving children portraits of O.J. Simpson, Dennis Rodman and RuPaul to carry in a Black History Month parade have been removed from their classrooms, a school district spokeswoman said Wednesday."

I hate to see Black History month come to an end.

So your 8 year old comes home from school carrying a poster of OJ, You go"Pablo, why do you have that picture of Oh Jay Simpson"?

Three white male teachers in a school which is 90% Latino celebrating Black History month. Sounds like fun to me.

These three guys got some 'splaining to do.  Hey, they made a statement. What are they going to do about it?. Not give them their IOUs at the end of the month.   These three jewels above are certainly part of "black history" but why should a "history month" of any group be all the "good stuff" but none of the other "inconvenient truths"?  This did happen in California after all, it's likely the three teachers figure they are working for state IOUs and there is no 'Homo History Month" so may as well get a grin out of it.  Geeeezzzz.

Greek Government has its Tits in a wringer

Greece is an example of what we may see here in the U.S. soon, so all those who are contemplating retirement or already retired may get some tips from this video.
These elderly folks are not your typical radical types you normally see stirring up trouble over the run of the mill protester but the core of the country.  They are the people who have expended their working lives paying into a system not unlike our here in the US and are now being thrown under the bus.

A government, any government will sacrifice anything to insure it’s survival and that includes the citizens pensions.  The Prime minister says they were difficult decisions but necessary.  So they go to the only source or option by raising taxes and cutting pensions.  Say, that can’t happen here can it?

Jamie Dimon, chairman of JP Morgan Chase, has warned American investors should be more worried about the risk of default of the state of California than of Greece's current debt woes.

California's state controller says they may again issue IOUs as they run out of money yet again.

Pay attention to the local governments as this economic mess continues to gather steam.  Illusions painted by government numbers may put the crowds at ease for a time but the REAL state of the economy will manifest itself at the local level as cities and states feel the pinch from the unemployment.

Coast Guard crew heading home after Olympics survives helicopter crash in Utah mountains

National News Article - Las Vegas News | My Connection from Cox: "Coast Guard crew heading home after Olympics survives helicopter crash in Utah mountains
03-04-2010 02:10 AM PST

Glad the crew survived! So now my question to DOT; What the hell is a Coast Guard Aircraft (actually the report says two) doing in Vancouver to begin with? If they answer this satisfactorily, then the second question is why send crews all the way form Elizabeth City NC to cover whatever it was they went to the Olympics for in the first place? Surely there are west coast helicopter bases for the Coast Guard.

Every department of the government wastes money if you ask me, and the military side shares this tendency as well as other governmental agencies.

More on Tungsten Salted Gold Bars

Although I have been following the "knock off" gold stories as they pop up from time to time, this nearly four month stale article brings in some interesting points.

The Justice League -: "“Gold Finger - A New Take On Operation Grand Slam With A Tungsten Twist”"

In what the article describes as "A Slow Motion Train Wreck, years in the making" Rob Kirby tells how the Chinese discovered fake gold bars in a shipment they received in Hong Kong.  This sort of thing would have massive implications because it would be virtually impossible to pull off this sort of caper without involvement at the highest levels of government.

This story is as interesting as the arrest and sudden release of some Japanese men in Italy.  They were reportedly in possession of somewhere in the neighborhood of $134 billion in U. S. bonds and debt instruments.  The story was never really big and suddenly the Italians had released the men and this story has died and gone away.

Of course, all involved claim they were fake and the Japanese government says it was the work of the Mafia.

The strange part of this is, that's about the amount of U.S. debt the Japanese hold.  Like the gold story, I think there is more to this than anyone's letting on.

Just click it and see. I am sure there will be no surprises to anyone as to who's name is on the list.

Hint:  Two of them are on this photo.  Don't know how the other missed the list.

Notice the little Wharf Rat Waxman in the background.  Can't help it the guy looks like some lab experiment gone awry.

Gold Bar from German Bank Found to be mostly Tungsten

Got Gold?

Have been reading about the rumors of tungsten core gold bars and ingots for over a year now.  Many rumors have circulated about but have never seen one until today’s video came to my attention.  The video below is in German but has English sub titles.

This raises far more question that it provides answers.  History is wrought with records of Nations debasing their currencies.  Beginning with Kings of yore we find the policy known as “shaving” or “clipping”.  Rulers would take a little bit off each coin by this process rendering the coin just a little bit less valuable from the loss of gold or silver.  One need no degree in math to see how a government can take a little bit “off the top” of each coin and soon all the little particals will make more coins availible and we have the birth of inflation.  Not only governments and kings participated in this royal screwing of the public but it became so rampant that the average merchant would shave a bit off any coin passing through his hands.

To combat this debasing of the currendy some governments began to put ridges along the edge of coins to prevent or thwart this practice.  Ever since the concept of money was introduced to mankind there have been those who would debase the currency for personal gain at the expence of other men and the risk of ruination of society itself.  The fall of Rome begain as the currency was debased and taxes were imposed on the average man.  Theses are but methods of enslavement but, that’s for another post.

Say What?

Maxine Waters, Number 2 on the Finance Committee. Her husband the Banker, might 'splain how the discount window works.

If Maxine is an example of our best and brightest, may the Almighty have mercy on us. I mean she obviously does not understand the implications of the rates at the Fed discount window and oversees the banking industry, no wonder the Bankers operate any way they see fit.

Now on the other hand we DO have SOME who know what questions to ask Mr Bernanke and how.

Adventures in Vietnam

As a Vietnam Vet you can imagine the mixed emotions when my company announced they would begin schedule Airline service to Ho chi Minh City in What was South Vietnam. The last time I was there was in March of 1970. I was Flying 747s out of San Francisco and my domicile was given the trip. The first commercial flight by a U.S. Carrier in over 30 year began December 9th 2004 and I landed on runway 25R at Tan son nut Airport for the first time in almost 35 years just after 10pm local time on December the 11th.

Guess what? On first glance nothing much changed. Well, the streets were full of motorcycles but they were 4 stroke bikes not the smoking belching 2 cycles engines of days gone past and all the duce and a half’s were not belching black smoke as they sped through town because they were long gone. Don’t know much about life in Saigon over the last 35 years but the excitement I felt the first time I was there returned in a hurry that December night. The place was very much alive in a way only Vietnam can be.

Then I begin to notice things. There was a KFC and although it was a late hour as the hotel van zoomed toward the New World Hotel, restaurants were open, and looked fairly busy. My mind was racing as to what I wanted to do first. My buddy, who was flying the trip with me, was as anxious as I to hit the ground running. We had decided we wanted to go to the rooftop bar at the Hotel Caravelle for some Ba moi Ba (most pronounce it like BAA ME BAA) or Beer 33. It was a local beer we used to drink during the war among other things. Ba moi is Vietnamese for the number thirty and Ba moi Ba is 33, hence the name of the beer. The label just has a big “33” on the front.

The Military Gormet

A friend sent me this today and I thought it quite funny. Never thought about using a MRE to impress a date.

The MRE dinner date

For all of you who Know what an MRE is... And those that don't this is too funny and true not to read.

MRE dinner date, the following is a true story... Told from the point of view of a young Marine.

I had a date the other night at my place. On the phone the day before, the girl asked me to "Cook her something she's never had before" for dinner.

After many minutes of scratching my head over what to make, I finally settled on something she has DEFINITELY, definitely had never eaten before.

I got out my trusty case of MRE's. (Meal, Ready-to-Eat) Field rations that when eaten in their entirety contain 3000+ calories in each meal.
